Day 1 - Thursday

  • Flight to Höfn from Reykjavík airport at 08:55 AM (in the morning).
  • Drive east through beautiful areas, Lón, Hvalnes, and Þvottá, which are rich with magnificent landscape and wildlife, like reindeers.
  • Back in Höfn at 5:00-6:00 P.M. (in the afternoon).

Day 2 – Friday

  • Glacier hike in Vatnajökull with guide, where we will see glacial lagoons among other things (not included in the price). Plenty of time for photography.

Day 3 – Saturday

  • Guided ice cave tour in Vatnajökull, which is the biggest glacier in Europe (not included in the price). (Only available from 5. November-20.Mars). After that we visit the famous glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón that is one of Iceland’s most visited places.

Day 4 – Sunday

  • We spend the day in the areas close to Höfn, like Stokksnes with amazing landscape like black beaches and pointed mountains.

We will start the tour by driving from Reykjavík to the most famous tourist route in Iceland, The Golden Circle – Þingvellir-Geysir-Gullfoss. Þingvellir National Park, Iceland's greatest historical site and jewel of nature. The Great Atlantic Rift is clearly visible and is slowly pulling Iceland apart. The Icelandic parliament Alþingi was established there in 930, an open-air assembly and is the oldest existing parliament in the world. Then we continue to the geothermal active valley of Haukadalur which contains the geyser Strokkur which spouts hot water about 60-100 feet upwards about once every 5 minutes. Next we will drive to the waterfall, Gullfoss which means “Golden Falls”. It is one of the largest waterfalls in Iceland, and known as the queen of Icelandic waterfalls. It is 105-foot double-cascade and fall into the glacier river Hvítá. Overnight at Hótel Stracta Hellu. Hella is a small town with approx. 800 habitants.

We visit the highland and follow the Fjallabaksleið track to Landmannalaugar (only open 25.June – 31.Agust), which is a magnificent area. It is known for its natural geothermal hot springs and surrounding colorful landscape. On the way to the east we will stop at the Vatnajökull National Park of Skaftafell with its unique set between mountains, sands, rivers and glaciers. We stop for a short walk/hike were we will see the waterfall Svartifoss which is surrounded by dark lava columns. We proceed to the amazing glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón were we can take a boat trip among the icebergs (not included in the price). Jökulsárlón is one of Iceland’s most visited places. Huge blocks of ice constantly break off the glacier and large icebergs float on the lagoon. Overnigth in Höfn, in Fosshótel Nesjum or Hótel Höfn. Day 3

On the drive back we will take a glacier-hike in Vatnajökull, (not included in the price) which is the largest glacier cap in Europe, covering more than 8 percent of Iceland. We will be guided by a local specialist in ice walking. We proceed to Vík in Mýrdal a small town, were we will enjoy beautiful black beaches and birdlife. From Vík we can see the unique sea stacks Reynisdrangar. Next we will visit the waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. Skógafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in the country, 25 meters width (82 feet) and 60 m high (200 ft.). We will end the day with a Spa and dinner in The Blue lagoon (not included in the price). The waterfall is 100 m wide (330 ft.) and has a drop of 45 m (150 ft.) and is reputed to be one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. We then visit the geothermal wonder, Námaskarð, known for its mud springs (solfataras) and steam springs (fumaroles). The gigantic size of the mud craters and the beauty of the colorful minerals is a rare seen. Not far from Námaskarð is the Mývatn area, one of the most spectacular places in Iceland, specially known for its birdlife and nature- sculptures. Great opportunity to take awesome photographs. On the drive from Akureyri we will drive over mountain heaths and through long valleys. We will stop and have lunch at Blönduós, a small town with approx. 900 habitants. Drive over the highland road Kjölur (only open 25.June – 31.August). It is a gravel road that connects the Southern Region and Northwestern Region of Iceland. A untouched wilderness and clearly one of a kind. On our way through the highland we will come a cross Hveravellir a uniqe nature reserve. It is a geothermal area with hot springs and a natural hot pool. Drive on main road south to Reykholt (1.maí – 25.júní). Reykholt is one of Iceland's major historic sites, a cultural centre, where Snorri Sturluson lived. Near to Reykholt is Deildartunguhver, a highest-flow hot spring in Europe. We will spend the day in Höfn where we will get the change to relax and explore the life in town. We will have the opportunity do some exciting activitiy like a snowmobile-tour on Vatnajökull, an ATV-tour on Vatnajökull or a boat tour to Papey–island (not included in the price). We will have the opportunity to visit to the local craft store Handraðinn.

Day 4

Drive on main road east, where we will experience narrow fjords and vegetation. We will stop and have lunch in Egilsstaðir, the centertown of east Iceland with approx. 2500 habitants. We drive over the highland terrain of the north east of Iceland and visit the magnificent waterfall Dettifoss. The waterfall is 100 m wide (330 ft.) and has a drop of 45 m (150 ft.) and is reputed to be one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. We then visit the geothermal wonder, Námaskarð, known for its mud springs (solfataras) and steam springs (fumaroles). The gigantic size of the mud craters and the beauty of the colorful minerals is a rare seen. Not far from Námaskarð is the Mývatn area, one of the most spectacular places in Iceland, specially known for its birdlife and nature- sculptures. Great opportunity to take awesome photographs. Next stop is Húsavík where we will overnight. It is a small fishingtown where we can go whalewatcing. (Not included in the price).

Day 5

On the drive from Akureyri we will drive over mountain heaths and through long valleys. We will stop and have lunch at Blönduós, a small town with approx. 900 habitants. Drive on main road south to Reykholt. Reykholt is one of Iceland's major historic sites, a cultural centre, where Snorri Sturluson lived. Near to Reykholt is Deildartunguhver, a highest-flow hot spring in Europe. We will end the day with a Spa and dinner in The Blue lagoon (not included in the price). It is a geothermal spa located in a lava field and is for sure one of the most visited places in Iceland known for its clear blue colour. Overnight in Reykjavík the capital of Iceland.
